The BIG event this month will be our inaugural RG Art Expo, which will be taking place on the weekend of 24th/25th February. The idea for the show is to give the gallery over entirely to Reading’s most Gifted makers and designers to showcase the wonderful talent we have right on our doorstep. We hope to make a big splash and generate masses of interest both for the artists and for the gallery. As ever it would be great to see you if you can manage to pop in and we’ll be serving nibbles and drinks for those who can make it.
Among the artists who are exhibiting at the show will be such familiar names as Cathy Newell-Price, Kirsten Jones, Sarah Heppner & Claire Wilkinson. Cathy and Claire are both local jewellery designers who work predominantly in silver often adding colours with semi-precious stones. Cathy also uses enamel and pearls. Many of you may remember that we had a very successful exhibition of art by Kirsten Jones in September ‘06. Her wonderful Sardine collages captured the imagination of many of you. In fact so inspirational was her work that local students at Highdown School were even asked to prepare some coursework about her style, inspirations and techniques. Sarah Heppner was first shown in The Blue Duck Gallery in January 2006 and she rather took Caversham by storm. Her fantastic paintings of flowers, often incorporating glass and water, were, and continue, to be incredibly popular. So much so that Sarah’s talent has been recognized by a professional art-publishing house which has asked if they may produce limited edition prints of her work. For those of you who are fans of our most regular designers and artists we will also have work from Lauren Denney, Gabriella Corbani, Howard Birchmore & Mary Lomas. Other faces, who will be new to the gallery but not necessarily to the art world, will include jewellers Hannah Bedford and Annia Marcus, glassmaker Anne Arlidge, textile artists Kate Williams, Vicky Baker and Barbara Shaw, paper artist Julie Roberts, artists Paul Gunn, Brenda Graham and Helen Lunn, and many many more.
